At our international, Perkins-certified training centre in Ibbenbüren, Germany we provide unique engine know-how. Our training team is there for our OEM customers and their dealer organisations – with expertise at the highest level. In addition to the courses at our BU Power Systems training centre, we also offer our OEM customers on-site training.
As part of this, we provided training on the Perkins 904J-E36TA engine for our customer Merlo. Merlo Deutschland GmbH has many years of experience in the telehandler sector: The business of Merlo extends from the first moment the telehandlers roll off the production line, through the time they are in use, to the return and marketing of the used machines. With services ranging from advice and service to the sale of used machines, Merlo offers all services throughout the life cycle of the products.
Merlo recently started using the Perkins 904J engine, which is recognised for its compactness. The Stage V engine was designed to be compatible with more than 80 different machine models. The 4‑cylinder 904J-E28TA engine with a displacement of 2.8 litres has a maximum output of 55 kW (74 hp) and a torque of up to 380 Nm. The 3.6 litre 904J-E36TA option delivers 100 kW (134 hp) and up to 550 Nm of torque. With a high power and torque density, the small and compact Perkins engine impresses with optimised fuel consumption – and is therefore also suitable for Merlo machines.
In order to be there as an expert for all questions relating to the machine, in-depth knowledge of the machine’s engine is also essential for Merlo’s technical support. In the BU expert training, the necessary expertise on the new engine could be learnt in theory and also in practice directly on the company’s own machines. “The training content is a great help for our everyday work – we were able to learn a lot. As the training took place directly on site on our own machines, it was very practical,” says Ulrich Ellmers, Head of Technical Hotline.
“We also had a great time at Merlo,” says Klaus Buchmann, trainer at BU Power Systems: “The atmosphere during the training was great and the participants were very motivated. I really enjoyed being here. Thanks to everyone who took part in the training!”
