Precision and power for Graders with Perkins® engines from BU Power Systems

By 13. October 2025 No Comments

Renowned for its expertise in the construction industry, GP Papenburg Maschinenbau GmbH’s HBM-NOBAS has for many decades been producing a wide range of innovative motor graders to meet its customers’ varied requirements.

Based out of Nordhausen HBM-NOBAS, today, 120 employees develop, produce and sell construction machinery, steel and mechanical engineering components.

Known for its motor graders, the company manufactures them in various sizes and drive concepts from 4x4 to 6x4 to 6x6 all-wheel drive, all of which are used in more than 100 countries around the world. The entire process from development and design to final assembly has been carried out at the Nordhausen site in Thuringia since 1994.

Perkins® 1200 Series delivers dependable power – delivered by BU Power Systems

In keeping with the company’s focus on quality, HBM-NOBAS carefully selected its engine suppliers. Following close collaboration with BU Power Systems, the decision for its 19-ton grader BG 180 TA‑7 was ultimately made to go with the Perkins® 1206J-E70TA – a six-cylinder engine that meets the EU Stage V emissions standard for. With an output of 151 kW and a maximum torque of 870 Nm at 1400 rpm, this engine offers high power density and reliability.

In the 14-ton HBM BG 120 TA‑7 grader, HBM-NOBAS have selected the Perkins® 1204J-E44TA, which is also fitted in the BG 110 M, 9‑ton special underground mining grader machine designed specifically for working in shallow tunnels. In the grader’s newly developed ROPS/FOPS comfort cab, the driver not only has an ideal all-round view, but also plenty of room and storage space and an emphasis on better noise and dust insulation.

To support both graders, the 1204J-E44TA 4‑cylinder power solution delivers a powerful 110 kW and 560 Nm of torque at 1400 rpm, while meeting Stage V emission standards. Designed with optimised fuel consumption in mind, the engine benefits from service free aftertreatment and 500-hour oil change intervals.

Delivering precise performance

Mr. Ingo Köstner, managing director at GP Papenburg said: “HBM-NOBAS graders have earned a reputation for consistently delivering precise levelling performance on construction sites around the world. Our focus on quality, and delivering the graders our customers expect, is of paramount importance to us, so we carefully select the component suppliers we work with.

“Perkins engines complement our equipment and our brand reputation, delivering dependable power dense solutions which our customers can rely on to get the job done. As we are a global business with products operating in more than 100 countries, it is also key that our engine provider can support for our machines, wherever they are in operation, which is another important reason for selecting Perkins.”
