Collaboration Power: BU Power Systems and ATMOS Chrást

The roots of the traditional Czech manufacturer ATMOS Chrást go back to 1899. As one of the world’s leading companies in the compressed-air sector, ATMOS has around 50 years of experience in the construction of mobile compressors. Mobile ATMOS compressors are particularly robust and reliable. They can be used under the most extreme conditions. They can be used in the Siberian tundra, at temperatures as low as ‑40° C, as well as in the corrosive environment of the coastal regions of South America or in the extreme temperatures of the Arabian Peninsula. ATMOS compressors are also used in the Sahara desert, as they have filters and separators specially designed for dusty environments.

The PDP series compressors are equipped with a soft-start system that protects the engine and the screw block. This means that the compressor idles after start-up, giving it time to reach the correct operating parameters. All PDP Series compressors are equipped with Perkins engines, which meet the high demands of operating reliably even under extreme conditions and, as one of the key components, have a direct influence on the reliability of the machine.

The new ATMOS PDP 50 portable diesel screw compressor promises extreme versatility. It can be supplied with pressures of 7, 10, 12 and 14 bar. It is the ideal machine for sand, soda and dry ice blasting, air tools, pile drivers, drilling or pushing out fibre optic cables for telecommunication projects.

The new ATMOS PDP 50 benefits from a fuel-efficient Perkins engine with diesel particulate filter. The engine complies with Stage V and is thus certified for environmental zones where less modern machines are not allowed and are even excluded from public tenders. The 3‑cylinder model is one of Perkins smallest engines, combining performance, low operating costs and an ultra-compact package.

To protect the machine, electronic controls have been fitted to monitor all important parameters. The new PDP 50 has large, separate air filters for the engine and fan to ensure long maintenance intervals. The large diesel tank allows operation for more than 8 hours without refilling. As a Perkins 400 Series engine, the Perkins® 403J-E17T is highly competitive in terms of performance and fuel economy. Through appropriate use of technology, these engines have been designed to be reliable and to offer low cost of ownership in the wide variety of markets they serve.

The PDP 50 can be equipped with a variety of options to optimise the compressor for nearly every individual application. There are many options for compressed air treatment, e.g. dry air (aftercooler with condensate drain and heat exchanger). The compressor can also be customised for use in hazardous areas such as refineries (spark arrestor, Chalwyn valve) or in nature reserves (with bottom tray as standard to protect against leakage).

“Our PDP series compressors benefit from an exceptionally long service life, not least due to the solid engines. In addition, with Perkins we can rely on an established and global service network. This is very important for us as a leading global supplier,” says Franz Weisbrod, International Sales Director at ATMOS Chrást “In addition, the ATMOS PDP series compressors can be flexibly configured. Depending on the location and the customer’s requirements, there are a wide variety of options. With the Perkins 400 series motor, we have chosen a motor that can respond flexibly to these wishes and that runs robustly and reliably.”
